Over 100 students have graduated from the course, raving about the practical content, quality of instruction, and networking opportunities. To create an active learning experience, the 10-week program integrates classroom instruction, guest entrepreneurs, in-class exercises, case studies, and business plan assignments. Students learn whether self-employment is appropriate for them, and how to launch a venture regardless of their background and familiarity with business.

About the Instructor

April Lane is the Associate Director of the Coleman Entrepreneurship Center at DePaul University. In her role, April is responsible for helping entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses through the delivery of the Center’s strategic advisory services. She also teaches the popular monthly seminar, SYOB (Start Your Own Business), where attendees learn the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, how to identify a viable business opportunity, and how to develop a business plan. Prior to joining the Coleman Center, April had a career in marketing research and brand consulting. She earned her MBA in entrepreneurship from DePaul University, and a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Michigan.
